I’m an awful cook. Actually, that’s a lie. I might be a fantastic chef (though likely not). But I refuse to make an attempt on anything that doesn’t meet my under 9 minutes in the microwave rule, so I don’t even know. Luckily, Manhattan is a good location for cookaphobes such as myself. There are no less than 49 restaurants within 4 blocks of my apartment. Unluckily, that’s why Mint shoots a large chunk of my monthly spending into the ‘Restaurants’ category. But hey, I’m supporting local establishments.
That’s why I paid extra attention when my Google Reader RSS’d in Tip #12: How I’m saving $2,000+ on eating out in 2009 from I Will Teach You How to Be Rich. Curious, I headed over to Restaurant.com, entered my ZIP code, selected ‘within 1 mile’ (it’s way to cold to walk far these day), and ended up with $25 gift certificates to two of my favorite restaurants – Havana Central and Copper Chimney — for $4, TOTAL!
This is just one of the many deals I’ve found subscribing to finance-minded blogs on Google Reader. I will let you know how they taste!
